Rarely do dance-pop songs ever appear on one's homework playlist or perhaps while one is star gazing up at the night sky. But if there was one that was just as upbeat but still appropriate for those scenarios, Save Me, Save You would be it. Although full of synths, the composition is done in a way where the tone is more tranquil than energetic throughout, almost like a ballad. My very first song from WJSN listened to, Save Me, Save You captures a dreamy-like atmospheric vibe, a word best described by the group's English name.
Save Me, Save You is drizzled with background synths, but the main spotlight here is that percussion! Driving forward the main melody in the verses, the percussion (I believe its xylophone, right?) has a slight touch added to it to where it echoes, making it sound more spacious. I love this effect, and it really helps in building this dreamy concept throughout the verse. The integration of it with the rap is perfect, and it never felt like the rap was hindering the song from establishing its structure. The chorus is a full-on assault with a fusion of the same percussion and synths used, but it doesn't get too loud; the tone and amplitude stays consistent throughout. Equally noteworthy is the vocal production; there is a crazy amount of vocal layers scattered throughout. The vocals are nothing groundbreaking, but they fit well with the music and the theme. Heck, the girls do a great job during the bridge, where the vocals and the final momentous rap help carry the momentum all the way to the final chorus, showcasing their signature signing capabilities.
Dreamy tunes are some of my favorite kind of songs, as they will get you to stop what you're currently doing and just on life. The percussion is an extremely vital instrument in those kind of songs, and I am very sure Save Me, Save You would have sounded very, very different if that instrument was not present here. Then again, the vocal production is also top-notch here. The song made me become a WJSN fan and got me longing for this genre again. It's still dance-pop and it's still upbeat, but I definitely wouldn't mind putting it on my studying playlist.
